Senate Resolution 61

(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR DICK HALL FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

WHEREAS, Senator Richard Evans "Dick" Hall of Madison County has been appointed to the position of Commissioner of the Central Mississippi Highway District, and will be leaving the Mississippi Senate after serving six terms in the Legislature: three terms in the House of Representatives and three terms in the Senate; and

WHEREAS, Dick's experience in the Mississippi Legislature has been extremely broad based: he has served as Chairman of the environment committees in the both the House and Senate, served as Chairman of the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee after Congressman Roger Wicker left the Senate, and currently is completing his fourth year as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, where he has been the first Republican to occupy this position in over one hundred years, and he has chaired the Environmental Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures and been very active in national legislative organizations; and

WHEREAS, Chairman Hall is a lifelong Mississippian whose family helped to settle the Mississippi territory, which was the natural inspiration for his involvement in Mississippi government and love of Mississippi history; and

WHEREAS, Dick is a very active alumnus of Mississippi State University, he was chosen as "Alumnus of the Year" in 1994 by the Mid-Mississippi Chapter of the MSU Alumni Association, and he has established a very generous endowment fund for MSU student scholarships; and

WHEREAS, he was listed in "Who's Who of the South and Southeast" and in addition to his official duties as a State Senator, he has served as President of the Mississippi Republican Elected Officials Association and this year serves as State Chairman of the United Republican Fund; and

WHEREAS, Senator Dick Hall is a man of integrity and hard work, and there is an acknowledged respect for our esteemed colleague by all members of the Senate:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we hereby commend and recognize Senator Dick Hall, whose long and outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish him much success in his office of Transportation Commissioner and in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Senator Dick Hall.
